Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is a Bengaluru-based franchise cricket team competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Established in 2008 by United Spirits, the team is named after the company's liquor brand, Royal Challenge.

Since its inception, RCB has hosted its home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Initially led by Rahul Dravid in 2008, the team was captained by Virat Kohli from 2011 to 2021. Remarkably, RCB holds the record for the highest score (263/5) and the lowest score (49) in IPL history.

During the 2008 auction, Vijay Mallya acquired the Bangalore franchise for $111.6 million, which surged to $277 million (₹19,815 crore) by 2024. Despite its immense popularity, RCB remains one of the three original IPL franchises yet to clinch the coveted IPL trophy.

The team's musical journey began in 2008 with the theme song "Jeetenge Hum Shaan Se." This was followed by the 2009 anthem "Game for More," composed by Amit Trivedi. In 2013, "Here We Go, the Royal Challengers" was introduced, remaining the anthem until 2015. The current official anthem, "Play Bold," composed by Salim-Sulaiman, debuted in 2016.

For the IPL 2025 season, RCB retained star players Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal. Additionally, they strengthened their squad by acquiring Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood for ₹12.50 crore. Rajat Patidar has been entrusted with leadership for the 2025 season as the new team captain.
